'From foal to race' transition year programme

The 'From Foal to Race' Transition Year Programme is a 12-week equine-focused module. It presents TY students with a comprehensive overview of the horse racing and breeding industry in Ireland, with a strong focus on increasing awareness of the careers featured throughout the foal to race journey. Some of the highlighted career case studies include jockeying, digital marketing and nominations.

Throughout this 12-week (1hr per week) programme, both the teachers and students will gain insight into the horse racing industry, including the role of stud farms and animal welfare, and other regulations of the sector. This programme is designed by Equuip and Agri Aware to be relevant to those already living within horseracing communities and also opens conversations and awareness for those who do not. Due to this, there is no expectation for the student to have prior industry or equine knowledge expectations - only an interest, and maybe even a passion, for horses!

The programme features topics relevant to the Leaving Certificate cycle in the areas of biology, business, agricultural science, design and communication. This interdisciplinary approach reflects the real-world application of school-taught subjects in a flexible and interesting format.
