Equuip are delighted to collaborate with the South East Technological University (SETU) to conduct two PhD research projects on the Irish Horse Racing & Breeding Industry.
Two cohorts –
1. Stable Staff & Racehorse Trainers and 2. Stud Farm Staff & Breeders; will be the primary subjects of the research, are the backbone of the horse racing & breeding industry and are a vital source of employment within this sector. They have hugely contributed to the success of Irish horseracing and breeding on a worldwide stage.
There is little research done on this population within Ireland, suggesting that we do not have a clear understanding of these vital cohorts and their needs.
This PhD research shall be the first of its kind to explore the different areas of working within the horse racing and breeding industry providing crucial knowledge and insight.
During this time the PhD students will become immersed within the industry by gaining relevant knowledge from the breeding Sector, shadowing industry personnel in a multitude of areas. This will be a continuous process which shall encourage and enhance the students training and knowledge of the industry. Exploring areas Wellbeing, Education & Training, Resilience and Interpersonal Relationships which shall provide us with necessary information, analysing data and outcomes to create change.
As the education, training, and people wellbeing department within Horse Racing Ireland, we continue to strive to increase education and supports available for the Thoroughbred Industry. It is the work of the Research group that drives our initiatives and ensures quality evidence-based decisions are made. At this point in the journey the need to explore and understand, is essential for us to ensure meaningful change can be realised in this valuable population.
